Why consider IR Maintenance, instead of Regular/Conventional Maintenance?

Regular/Conventional Maintenance requires you to have sufficient amount of spare parts available at all times and is based on timely repairs after running hours. It is very costly maintenance system and has been the only system available till now.

IR (infrared) Maintenance surveys (when done every 3 months) will tell you if any of equipment has increased temperatures, caused by friction, cooling degradation, material loss or blockages, which indicate that you need to overhaul the equipment. In this case you do not need a large spare parts store, as you would do with Regular/Conventional maintenance. Some equipment can run three times more than manufacturer's recommendation, because they set low running hours due to safety, as with Regular/Conventional maintenance you could be changing/overhauling good running equipment, and you run on needless expenses. IR Maintenance could cost to ship owners between 3 000 - 5 000 USD at every three months, while Regular/Conventional Maintenance could cost 10 times or more that price and require to keep a relatively large spare parts storage, subject of corrosion and pilferage.

More Reasons for using IR Maintenance System.

Regular/Conventional Maintenance requires Run Test with temperatures control monitoring of 1,5,15,30 minutes to be carried out after completion of each overhaul. After couple of times dismantling, assembling and temperatures control monitoring, you will be able to say that the engine is properly overhauled. However to be more safe, it is recommended to be carried out Run Tests of 15 and 30 minutes again, when engine is under load. If all Run Tests complete and show reasonable parameters, then the engine can be considered to be properly overhauled.
